With the summer holiday season upon us it is vital that we take extra care

• During school holidays there is a greater risk of trespass – ensure site boundary protection, including fencing, bunding and signage, is in good order. Rescue equipment must be readily available at water hazards and access should be restricted to plant and equipment, with signage identifying any remaining danger areas.  It is important that inspection schemes include regular checks on fencing, signage, rescue equipment, etc.

• We generally see an increase in injuries over the summer months… whether this is a result of increased production, fewer people due to holidays, people doing unfamiliar tasks, etc., it is essential that we STOP, THINK & CHECK before starting any new activities.

• Sickness absence generally peaks over the summer months – Managers and Supervisors should monitor and manage absence closely to ensure the impact in the workplace is minimised.
