40 Years For Phil Bentley…

Huge congratulations to Phil Bentley (Night Shift Asphalt Operative) from Dove Holes quarry who completed his 40 year service on 25th June 2019.

Phil, at 17 years of age, started as a Sales Office Junior at Eldon Hill quarry when it was owned by Thomas Ward before RMC took over. He remembers himself and a friend both going for the job and them being picked up by the works bus for their interviews as neither could drive at the time. Fortunately, Phil got the job and the rest, as they say, ‘is history’.

When RMC moved the Sales Office to Spring Street in Widnes Phil moved into the weigh bridge where he was to become Supervisor. Just before Eldon closed he came to Dove Holes in 1999 when a job in the weighbridge came up. Again, Phil eventually was to become Supervisor before taking a job on nights about six years ago.

Asked what has been his fondest memories Phil says: “It’s got to be the inter-company cricket matches in the 80s and the company Rugby tournaments in the late 90s.”

Phil is going to put his CEMEX 40 year service reward towards a holiday and he can be seen here (on the left) receiving his 40 year Institute of Quarrying Award from Night Shift Supervisor, Justin Berry. A big thanks on behalf of CEMEX and everyone at Dove Holes.
