The John Radcliffe Eye Hospital have seen an increase in serious eye injuries in recent weeks and recommend always wearing eye protection when you are gardening or doing DIY. 

In addition, they suggest that wearing glasses rather than contact lenses at this time is a sensible precaution.  It protects your eyes, reduces the risk of contact lens related complications and reduces the need to touch your eyes and face.
