Take Control of your Health – National Diabetes Day
A mammoth 4.7 million people have diabetes in the UK, that’s roughly the same number of people who live in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds combined…. or 7.2% of the UK’s population.
- Each week diabetes leads to almost 2,000 cases of heart failure, 530 heart attacks, 680 strokes and169 amputations.
- The NHS spends at least £10 billion a year on treating diabetes, which is 10% of its annual budget.
- In some hospitals over quarter of all the beds are used by people with diabetes.
In many cases diabetes (type 2) is either avoidable or controllable through diet and exercise. Go to www.diabetes.org.uk for more information. Take control of your health.
