Yorkshire Readymix Wins EXCEED’s Idea of the Month

On behalf of the Management Team, another big ‘Thank You’ goes out to everyone for continuing to develop and implement their ideas that will help make CEMEX a Safer place to work, with better Quality and greater Efficiency / Effectiveness.

The following summary gives a brief overview of the ideas from the December 2022 competition:

  • South West Readymix – The previous car park meant that you had to drive against the natural flow of traffic or drive around the plant that brought you in to potential contact with loading shovels and mixers. The new car park is away from all traffic routes with a clear pedestrian walkway to the batch office.
  • Sandgate quarry – Increased size of the step along with installing a steel chain which will act as a handrail, increasing safety while climbing the small ladder.
  • Yorkshire Readymix – Performed a study which led to the design and implementation of an automatic lubrication system on Erie Strayer mixers. The improvement has resulted in very little wear to the mixer and saved at least £270,000 in replacement parts.
  • Angerstein Wharf – Demolished the old feed tunnel which has eliminated the chance of machine tipping over / vehicle contact, increased stacking space and slightly reduced diesel usage.
  • West Heath quarry – Installed a soft closing mechanism to the gate on a sloping walkway, to minimise the chances of the gate hitting another person behind.

Our congratulations go out to Gordon Renshaw and the Yorkshire Readymix team who took the top award this month! If you have an Erie Strayer or similar type of mixer, please consider whether a system like this would work for you!
