Swansea Wharf and West Deeping Quarry jointly win EXCEED’s Idea of the Month

On behalf of the Management Team, another big ‘Thank You’ goes out to everyone for continuing to develop and implement their ideas that will help make CEMEX a safer place to work, with better quality and greater efficiency/effectiveness.

The following summary gives a brief overview of the ideas from the February 2023 competition:

  • Swansea Wharf – team-worked with CEMEX Wick to cost effectively produce Jersey Blocks from waste concrete material that prevents vehicle access and demarcate non-pedestrian area of around 150 metres of wharf edge (read all about it here).
  • Loughborough Readymix – implemented ‘Supaflo’ and ‘Longfloor’ checklists within Checkproof to keep a record of pre-delivery quality tests which could reduce the number of possible claims about materials being out of specification.
  • Oldbury Readymix – reduced the chances of Slips, Trips & Falls when performing stock checks of fuel (lids are around 3 metres off the ground) by using Sensors on the fuel tank, similar to the measurement systems on Admixture tanks.
  • Willington quarry – has been doing some great biodiversity and public relations work by planting cuttings of rare Black Popular trees which would have meant purchasing young trees from a specialist grower. Some young trees have been donated to Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to be planted in the Willington Nature Reserve and they are looking to expand the nursery compound this year.
  • West Deeping quarry – have installed a solar powered lighted sign which is activated by a PIR to highlight someone is entering a ‘High Noise’ area, and ear protection within this area is mandatory.

After another very tightly fought competition our congratulations go out to Swansea Wharf and West Deeping quarry who jointly took the top award this month!
