Latest UK Video Safety Alert

The latest Video Safety Alert relates to a recent incident where a cyclist came off the pavement at a junction controlled by traffic lights, into the path of a company truck.  It appears that the cyclist didn’t realise the lights controlling the nearside filter lane was on green, while the traffic in the offside lane was held on a red light.

Thankfully, the truck was being driven at an appropriate speed for the conditions, and the driver was alert and able to stop quickly, as this incident had the potential to end in tragedy.

The Video Alert is a useful reminder for us all as road users:

  • For vehicle drivers, in terms of being fit and alert, driving in accordance with the conditions and looking out for vulnerable road users, and
  • For cyclists and pedestrians, take extra care at road junctions and use designated crossing points where possible, remain alert to other road users, wear bright / reflective clothing, use lights / torches as appropriate and, as a cyclist, wear a helmet.

Please share the Alert with your teams, including employed and contract drivers. You may also want to share it with family members.

Before starting any new task always STOP, THINK…& CHECK it is safe, and always STEP IN if you see anything unsafe.
