Across two weeks in November UK Materials recently ran their second and third Aggregates Operations Academy, with 43 Assistant Quarry Managers (AQM) attending the 1½ day course.

The packed agenda covered: quarries regulations in relation to the role of the AQM; an accident investigation exercise; guidance and how to use the new aggregates dashboard; an exercise on how downtime and reduced TPH impacts our financial performance; employee lifecycle/policies; transitioning from team member to manager; time management.

The days were facilitated by Kevin Cage, Wayne Strevens, Mark Brown, Mick Ripley, Rebecca White and Steve Coles. There was plenty of lively discussions and the group found the sessions an excellent opportunity to network with the AQM colleagues from across the UK. Everyone had fun and left with a greater depth of knowledge plus some helpful tools to support them in fulfilling their roles more effectively.
