Celebrating 20 Years of Cemex in the UK

In 2005, Cemex acquired RMC to enter the UK’s building and materials market. By this time Cemex was already a well-established global business.

The acquisition of RMC provided Cemex with an established operation with a proud heritage in the UK, dating back to 1826 when a small family business owned by Thomas Walker and his son George started producing lime mortar in Rugby.  RMC’s own history dated back to the 1930s when Kjeld Ammentorp is credited with founding the organisation and establishing the UK’s first Readymix Concrete Plant.

To mark Cemex’s 20th birthday in the UK, throughout March, over on our UK LinkedIn channel, we are taking a look back down memory lane to some of the events that took place in the UK during 2005.
