The Midlands Materials team has unexpectedly been supplying Galldris Services Ltd at HS2 Northern Portal (at Southam).

Liam Hare, Commercial Manager Midlands explains: “We were approached to supply due to issues with our competitors ability to do so. We were hesitant to at first, largely because the approved traffic routes meant it would be circa 25miles from all 3 plants that would be used and also it was a high strength, S4 consistence mix.  With every load tested prior to discharge it was a challenge to ensure compliance.

However, thanks to some great solutions based thinking with input from our operations, technical and shipping teams we managed to come up with a solution.

Over the last few months, we’ve roughly done one pour a week between 200-350m3. The impact on our area and adjoining areas has been quite large – with the numbers of vehicles needed to ensure adequate service meaning there was a pinch elsewhere.
