Life After LIDs…

With our new 2015 LIDs (Leaders In Development) beginning their year’s rotation, we catch up with Callum Mcphillips, one of last years LIDs, to see what he thought of his year and how it has helped him develop his career.

Here’s what Callum thought….

“The Leaders In Development Programme 2014 for me was a great opportunity to see CEMEX in all its varied operations with a chance to get to really understand the business I’m in. The programme opened me up to a completely new network of people, both internally and externally, and gave me the platform to tap into a wealth of knowledge and expertise I’d never had before.

During the programme I had the privilege of being mentored by a VP and had the variety of experiences from Senior Managers meetings, commercial conferences, development training, to working on the front line including blasting at quarries, delivering products with drivers, working in the labs and meeting customers.

Ultimately, the Leaders In Development Programme allowed me to develop my skills through training and experiences both in the class room and on the front line, giving me the best opportunity to progress my career at CEMEX. After the programme I am now a Commercial Haulage Capacity Manager for Aggregates and Asphalt for the Central Region. Without the Leaders In Development Programme I wouldn’t be in this position today.  The programme gave me the insight to the business that not many have the opportunity to experience and it’s these experiences that put me in the best position to develop my career.”
