Thanks For Your Effort – October Nominees

More thanks go to our fantastic colleagues nominated for the October Thanks For Your Effort award for showing exceptional dedication and going above and beyond their day jobs. They are…..

Tracey Millen, Rail Administrator Supply Chain Dove Holes

Mark Grimshaw-Smith, Rail & Sea Manager Supply Chain, nominated Tracey for organising the face-to-face RSA training, and coordinating with the Rail depots, Site Managers, contractors, and training bodies to establish who needed refresher training or initial training and arrange suitable courses and venues. This follows a long period during COVID when restrictions meant the formal rail safety awareness training sessions were suspended and limited to online training. Tracey resurrected the face-to-face training diligently and established a training database, and arranged for 45 candidates to be trained successfully on seven courses at four different venues. These actions helped ensure safety in our Rail operations and maintain a standard of excellence at the railheads.

Tracey has collaborated and helped work as one CEMEX and has acted professionally and with integrity with all parties. CEMEX, our suppliers and contractors have benefitted from the training and reinforcement of our safety culture at and around our railheads.

Readymix North West Paul Cheeseman, Barry Jones, Christopher Rudd, Leonard Dobson, Daniel Roberts, Charlie Woodhouse, Charlie Wilcock, John Finley, Gary Wellsbury and Stuart Minney

Damon Montgomery, General & Commercial Manager North West, nominated the Readymix North West team for their commitment and dedication to delivering a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Day.

Damon made the decision to close the North West Readymix Operation to host a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Day in October – two sites were chosen to host the event at Manchester and Liverpool. The theme for the day was to deliver the Zero4Life Training programme and incorporate a Health and Wellbeing session which included a guest speaker and a quiz. The day was a huge success but the amount of planning and preparation that went into organising and delivering the event at both locations was tremendous.

Damon commented: “If it wasn’t for the commitment and dedication of the nominated team we simply wouldn’t have achieved the delivery of the event. They all worked tirelessly to organise the event which included the erection of two large marquees constructed by contractors on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They arranged food, prizes and also acted as presenters of the content for the day. Over 100 employees and contractors were in attendance for the sessions, and all benefited from the work effort put in by this team.”

Ryan Crowther, Plant Manager, Readymix Yorkshire, Sheffield plant

Gordon Renshaw, Operations Manager, Readymix Yorkshire, nominated Ryan for his focus on customer service. Sheffield Readymix had a 300m3 pour to a regular customer and they wanted to start early to get a good start on the job. Ryan started work earlier than usual, the pour didn’t go to plan and wasn’t as quick as the customer had hoped and what started out as 300m3 turned into 470m3. Ryan stayed till the work was done and eventually locked the gates late in the evening. After an exceptionally long shift he still made it in to work the next morning.

The customer was facing a very big and awkward rip out if we couldn’t finish the pour and because Ryan stayed until the job was done, the customer was able to complete successfully. We now have a great relationship with the customer and have an order for a similar size pour.
