Ecological Care in Action at West Deeping

As part of our ongoing restoration efforts at West Deeping quarry, we recently welcomed a visit from ecological consultants Bowland Ecology. The visit, which was specially commissioned to support restoration planning, focused on assessing the area ahead of necessary tree removals for the installation of a clay seal in the northern extraction zone.

We’re pleased to report that no nesting birds were identified within the survey trees area. However, a pyramidal orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalis) was discovered on-site. While its presence posed no major constraint to our planned activities, the team took the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to best environmental practice.

The orchid has now been carefully relocated to the landscaped area beside the car park, adjacent to our designated beauty spot. This move ensures the plant continues to thrive in a more protected setting, contributing to local biodiversity and reinforcing our dedication to ecological responsibility.
