As part of Collessie’s biodiversity action plan, Lauren Neugent, Quarry Manager, and the team have allocated an area for a wildflower meadow. This will improve invertebrate variety and help farmland bird species.
The field had had a light cultivate before sowing to curtail the grass growth, and then rolled after.
Lauren comments: “Hopefully the wildflowers will establish over the next few months and we will be able to share the results. Thanks to Sean Cassidy for advising us on the method and seed type to use. Thanks also to our local contractor, Bilsland and Dewar, for sowing the seeds and advising the best method to give the seed the best chance of successful germination.”
