Unfortunately, other life ending illnesses such as cancer don’t realise that COVID-19 has happened, and this is placing enormous strain on our nation’s hospices, who rely on charity donations and support for their financial security.  Hospices have been hard hit with the cancellation of most of their fundraising efforts, but more importantly they have had to stop many visitors seeing their patients.  As you can imagine this is extremely hard for patients and their families.

Myton hospice in Rugby has long had links with CEMEX and we were delighted to be able to help them out again last week with the donation of video enabling devices and hand sanitiser made by our UK Lab Experts (aka the Technical team). Huge thanks go to Simon Whitfield, UK IT, and Mike Higgins, National Technical team, for sorting out the donations.

We received a lovely email from the hospice detailing exactly how important this kind of support is for the patients and staff, who provide end of life care for those who are terminally ill:

I have been speaking to Andlyn about the wonderful support you have offered to us at a time when we really need it most and wanted to say a huge thank you to you all.  To the CSR team for your support, liaison and enabling the donations. 

To the IT team for your amazingly generous donation of the IT devices, which will be priceless to our patients and their families at a time which, under normal circumstances, is already so difficult, but has been made so much worse as a result of Coronavirus and the restrictions sadly being placed on visiting at our Hospices. 

Many people don’t have access to tablets and Smartphones, so to be able to keep in touch with their families who are unable to visit them is quite simply amazing, will ensure nobody is lonely and ensure families can still see each other’s faces at such a precious time.  And to the Technical team for your – again priceless – donation of sanitiser. 

Thanks to you, our nurses and frontline care teams can care for our terminally ill patients knowing they and the patients are much better protected and are doing their bit to fight the spread of COVID-19.
