Members of the Quarry Management, Sales, Estates, Technical and Logistics team came together to support the RSPB at their Saltholme nature reserve. A 10m long 1.2m deep trench needed digging through heavy clay to enable a balancing pipe to be laid between two adjoining ponds to allow water levels to be controlled for nesting birds. It was hard work on a hot day but the team commented that it was very enjoyable and an excellent team building event. However, next time theysaid they will take a mini digger and not spades!!
Earlier in July the assistant quarry managers attended a similar event with RSPB volunteers pulling thistles to control weed growth. It was not as easy as it sounds covering large areas of land but rewarding to see the areas cleared of weeds.
