Pupils at Long Lawford Primary School near Rugby Cement plant will be able pick up their favourite reading books from a new book vending machine thanks to a donation from CEMEX.
The book vending machine supports the school’s ‘Reading for Pleasure’ initiative which aims to create a positive mindset for pupils to view reading. To bring it to life we want to stock it with books and this is where we are looking for your support to donate your unwanted/outgrown books.
This could be an opportunity to spring clean your children’s bookshelves and donate any books they no longer want. We welcome books in good condition, they can be any size and preferably fit the following categories:
- Rhyming stories, TV series related – Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol, interactive books/sensory
- Quality authors including Roald Dahl and David Walliams
- Quality stand-alone texts – https://www.waterstones.com/the-waterstones-childrens-book-prize
- Comics/Graphic novels
- Guinness Book of Records and similar
- Annuals (like the Beano and Dandy type cartoon stories)
- Graphic novels, non-fiction books (boys, in particular, are enjoying the Bear Grylls type survival books)
- Classics: Black Beauty – Anna Sewell, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – C S Lewis, The Borrowers – Mary Norton, The Secret Garden – Frances Hodgson Burnett, Heidi – Johanna Spyri, Tom’s Midnight Garden – Philippa Pearce, Swallows and Amazons – Arthur Ransome
You can drop off your book donations at the receptions of both CEMEX House and at Rugby Cement plants. Donations need to be dropped off by 10th June please.
Claire Stringer, Headteacher at Long Lawford Primary School, commented: “We are so truly grateful for the support CEMEX has given us and want to share that with our community. This wouldn’t be possible without your incredibly generous donation!”
