Sadly last week we suffered a contractor lost time injury (LTI), our first in 10 months.

In the incident two contractors were working in a restricted space repositioning a large pump section (1.5 metres in diameter and 2 tonnes in weight).  The pump section moved unexpectedly whilst suspended from a crane striking the two contractors, resulting in one of them suffering a fractured rib.

A full investigation is underway to establish the learning points which are likely to include ensuring lifts are properly planned and supervised, and revisions to the work methods so that a chain block is used to facilitate the final positioning of the pump section in the future.  We will circulate a Safety Alert on completion of the investigation.
