On Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend, the CEMEX Security team again spent a day working in partnership with local police to resolve a persistent neighbourhood nuisance and trespass problem involving off road motor bikes. Operating this time around our landfill site at Burghfield in Reading, they teamed up with Thames Valley Police who committed to the operation in significant numbers.
With the benefit of the Neighbourhood Team, Traffic Patrol, Transport Vans, Off Road capability and even a Police Drone, we were successful in deterring numerous off roaders from entering the site and causing nuisance and dangers to the local community. In glorious weather, one off-road bike was seized which will be destroyed by the police under Road Traffic Act powers and numerous machines, and their riders were turned away.
One particular ‘Bikenstein’ creation (pictured left – cycling enthusiasts of all types look away now!) had the police teams scratching their heads! A regular mountain bike, upon which its creator had mounted a 50cc engine complete with its own petrol tank but without silencer – the owner openly admitted this ‘monstrosity’ was entirely of his own making, it was loud and ‘very capable of keeping up with traffic!’
CEMEX continue to work in multi-agency partnership to find a safe, amicable and long-term resolution to this ongoing problem.
