The latest UK Safety Alert relates to a recent injury where a driver used an improvised method of work to try and clear some frozen material from the body of a tipper truck, suffering a hand injury as a result.

• The importance of following safe systems of work.
• Avoid adopting improvised methods of work, ensure tasks are planned and thought through first to minimise risk.
• Always STOP & THINK if situations don’t go to plan, TAKE 5 to reassess the situation and refer to your Manager / Supervisor where advice is required.
• Look after yourself and each other.
• STEP IN / Take 5 Together if you see someone who may be at risk of injury.

The Alert should also be displayed on relevant notice boards.
