Latest UK Safety Alert

The latest UK Safety Alert shares a concern that contractors working for us on construction projects have struck buried high voltage cables on three separate occasions in the last six months while digging trenches, thankfully, there were no injuries.

The incidents occurred despite Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Permits to Work being in place on each occasion, with shortfalls in scanning procedures and the temptation to take shortcuts amongst the contributory factors.

Buried cable strikes can lead to serious or fatal injuries.  Please discuss the Safety Alert with relevant team members, ensuring they are aware of the precautions that must be taken to reduce the risk of incidents and the relevant HSE Guidance.

Thanks go to the project teams who reported these high potential (HiPo) incidents.  By reporting and sharing information on high potential incidents, we can take action to minimise the potential for future injuries.
