CEMEX Jarrow Wharf recently won a customer order from Esh Construction to supply Newcastle Quayside’s annual artificial beach event with sand. Area Logistics Manager, Ian Phoenix, was carrying out an accompanied delivery with Jarrow Driver, Michael Lackland, to the site in a very busy area of Newcastle. Reversing into site is very hazardous due to the high level of activity from pedestrians, cyclists and passing traffic etc, but the task was made much safer due to the excellent safety culture demonstrated on site by the customer’s employees Ian Metcalf, Paul Mallanby and Stuart Arkle.
On arrival the busy Team immediately stopped their tasks and greeted the Driver to create an exclusion zone ensuring nobody was put at risk until the load had been safely discharged. Ian Phoenix comments: “I informed Natalie Hodson, from the Aggregate Sales Team, and asked if she could feed back to the customer how superb their action had been. The customer was delighted to receive the feedback and as a result would be putting the hard working Team forward for an internal Health & Safety award. It is great to work with customers who have the same beliefs as CEMEX where Health & Safety is the number 1 priority. Well done to all concerned ensuring everyone’s safety!”
