A recent spate of tipper incidents has given cause for concern over driver competency. One CEMEX contractor failed to lower the tipper body when exiting a customer site and damaged an overhead gantry. Another contractor at a cement plant drove a significant distance with the body raised before finally colliding with an overhead stanchion, causing extensive damage and downtime in production. This follows a tragic incident in Scotland (not CEMEX related), where a Romanian driver lost his life while in the vehicle he was operating came into contact with an overhead 11,000 volt cable.
