Our Rail Solutions Operation based at Somercotes, Derbyshire on 30th March 2019 went 1 full year without an accident or incident. Following on from the plant’s success of 14 years LTI free in September 2018, this is just another example that ZERO harm is possible.
Terence Clair, Operations Manager, commented: “This is a true reflection of commitment and dedication by all within the team at Somercotes. I have said on many occasions how proud I am of the team and this is a time for them to feel proud.” Terence continued: “Leadership is a choice, we have worked hard with our people to own health and safety and feel responsible for their actions as well as their inactions. We still need to do more, even myself as a Manager, I want people to become leaders in all they do. For hundreds of years organisations have implemented and followed a structure of leader-follower where individuals feel it’s not them that are responsible, and it will be up to someone else to put things right. This cannot be the way in Health and Safety and if I’m honest in our continuing attempts to build a solid team foundation we need to grow a leader-leader concept in a bid to inspire an open-minded approach, innovative thinking, a willingness to put forward ideas and the confidence to speak out. If we can do this I am confident we will have 30 people looking at Health and Safety as we do as Managers.
