The Video Safety Alert accessible via the link below includes forward facing camera footage from one of our truckmixers as it rolled away after the driver got out of the cab.
There is little doubt that if we weren’t on lockdown, this incident would have resulted in life changing or fatal injuries as the vehicle crossed what is usually a busy main road, mounted the pavement next to a bus stop and crashed into a house.
The learning points are very clear and should be enforced across all our operations…If a vehicle is being left unattended, apply the parking brake, stop the engine, remove the keys, lock the doors and apply wheel chocks.
Please discuss this Alert with teams as appropriate, in particular with employed and contract haulage drivers, and ensure the requirements are enforced to prevent further runaway incidents, with potentially fatal consequences.
