Bill Clarke shared this great example of a Step In from Kevin Welch IHC at South Shields……
Bill noticed that an old concrete pump on site was backfiring badly. Whilst he was out of the direct firing line, he was concerned for the safety of the customer employee, Slipform, on the hopper of the pump. He was vibrating the concrete down as the hopper vibrator was broken and the employee could have been sprayed with concrete. Kevin rang and had a chat with Chris Casey, the Site Manager at Slipform, voicing his concerns that as a safety conscious company we endeavour to try and keep everyone safe, including their employees. He asked what their proposals were going forward as we were pouring at site again that evening. Chris confirmed he was going back on site to check that his guys were safe and also to discuss the improvements they could make to site safety. He assured Bill that there would be a different pump on site for the evening pour to alleviate the problems we and they were encountering with this particular mix being pumped.
Well done to Kevin for his site safety awareness, for looking after each other, and for STEPPING-IN.
