Last Thursday was the World Day for Health & Safety at Work, a global event observed by the United Nations in order to stress the importance of preventing accidents and injuries at work.
Across CEMEX many people took the opportunity to reflect on this priority and the efforts we are making to look out for each other. Here is a summary of the activities that took place across the UK sites.
Dave Hart, Supply Chain Director, commented: “Thanks to the Supply Chain team for supporting World Health & Safety Day today by being visible and engaging with our drivers and contractors.
Congratulations to the Rail and Sea team for their recognition in the Global Health & Safety Awards and the Materials and Urban Solutions businesses for their continued support and collaboration. Team CEMEX working together to achieve #Zero4Life.”
Julie Welch, Health And Safety Manager, commented: “Very positive day with great engagement. It gave us the opportunity to discuss the recent LTI in Supply Chain UK when a contractor severed his finger in the tailgate, and also to discuss the importance of the vehicle safety features. It allowed us to re-enforce that every day is a World Health & Safety at Work Day.”
Matt Bland, Marine Fleet Development Manager, said: “Safety training on board the Sand Fulmar (see image) to ensure everyone knows how to operate our emergency equipment.”
Kurt Cowdery, General Manager Marine, said: “CEMEX Marine supports World Day for Health and Safety at Work with activities throughout the fleet – proud to be awarded UK & Global Best Performance, Aggregates Sector. A dedicated team – well done.”
Colin Jones, Security Manager, reported: “Great to visit our Bradford Readymix plant today to assess the fuel security measures and conduct a Data Privacy Impact Assessment on the newly installed CCTV system. On World Health & Safety Day I was particularly impressed with the detail of Site Manager, Andrew Sutton’s, Health & Safety Induction…. left nothing to chance. Thanks for looking after me Andrew!”
Daniel Roberts, Commercial Development Manager – North West, shared: “As it is World Health & Safety Day today, CEMEX Readymix Northwest Commercial team visited our very own Halkyn Limestone quarry in North Wales. Following the Health & Safety Induction by Andy Edwards, Quarry Manager, they had a full tour of the quarry, shown the crushing plant, the process and machinery and finally went to the top of the quarry to witness today’s blast.”
Gemma Lawrenson, Sales Executive Readymix Concrete – North West, visited Halkyn Limestone quarry on World Health & Safety Day. Gemma commented: “Women in construction aims to demonstrate why the construction industry should be addressing the issue of attracting more women into the industry and I am proud to work for CEMEX.”
