Our sites continue to generate some great ideas to help make our workplaces safer, to maintain quality, reduce non-value-added time and improve our profit margins.  Every idea is worth looking at to create our ‘marginal gains’ to make CEMEX UK a safer, more efficient and profitable organisation.

Aggregate’s Just Ci programme rewards sites for the best ideas.  Well done to Angerstein Wharf (the second consecutive time they have won!), and Taffs Well Quarry and Hatfield Quarry for winning the last two monthly JUSTCi Best Ideas competitions.

Brief descriptions follow:

Angerstein Wharf – trialled reintroducing silt into their sand products after the wash cycle is complete.  The successful trial showed they could keep within their Customer Specifications and has the added benefits of:

• Savings on flocculant chemical.
• Savings on running the silt press, pumps and motors.
• Savings on not paying the cost of sending to landfill.
• Increase in volume produced – more finished product.
• Less fuel used on mobile plant to load trucks/double handle stock.

Taffs Well Quarry – installed a walkway to the Primary Crusher which not only makes it much safer to walk to the equipment but also increases production volumes during scheduled running and reduce the amount of Non-Value Added ‘Motion’ waste to rectify issues.

Hatfield Quarry – have installed a Rubble Chute to safely guide spillage that was falling onto the walkway below and significantly improve staff morale.

The UK has also performed brilliantly in the Global Ideas competition where we are leading the way with monthly winners!
