Well done to West Deeping quarry and Gilfach quarry who are the August and September winners of the JustCi competition.  Their ideas make CEMEX a safer and improve our quality, efficiency and effectiveness on a day to day basis.

Creative surplus thinking…

West Deepings idea:  They had stocks of 0/2 sand with no sales on the radar to reduce it so they did some compliance testing by adding 0/2 sand to the 0/4 sand which proved successful in creating one 0/4 sand within spec.  They modified the removable sand chute to allow this to be achieved.  The whole process only takes 15 minutes so it allows them to make 0/2 on demand for the GRS Bagging plant.

Safety improvements to the sludge tank

Gilfach quarry team made some safety improvements by increasing one of the access doors to the floor level of the sludge tank.  This means the tank can now be washed out by hose from the outside by one person.  Also, the mini digger on site can reach in to scrape away material, getting rid of the need to work in the confined space.  Safer, more efficient and more effective…TICK!
