Locally Sourced, Economically Vital

The concrete industry is essential to delivering social and economic infrastructure and vital to the continued strength of local and national economies. It creates jobs and supports communities all over the country, from Stornoway to Penzance.

Concrete is a local material. Over 95 per cent of UK concrete is produced within the UK, whereas 67 per cent of timber and 60 per cent of steel is frequently imported from around the world. The average delivery distance for ready-mixed concrete is only 12km. For concrete of any kind, it’s still only 46km.

A short supply chain is a major sustainability benefit, minimising carbon emissions associated with materials transport. Using locally produced materials also reduces demand for imports and the risk of increasing the national trade deficit, ensuring security of supply, cutting carbon and contributing to the UK’s homegrown economic prosperity.
