Our Aggregates business give a Just Ci (continuous improvement) award of the month each month to the ideas from the business which contribute to making us more effective and efficient.  For the month of January there was a joint winner – Denge Quarry and Raynes Quarry.  Here are their winning ideas:

Denge Quarry’s improvement was to have the ability to float their excavating equipment so they can use previously inaccessible raw materials in their production – this has resulted in increasing the life of the Quarry from three to four years to between eight to ten years and an estimated OCF of £8/£10m with this new way of working.

Raynes Quarry wanted to reduce their Contract Crushing costs and their idea was to replace their single deck screen with a double deck screen to reduce Contract rework. A surplus screen was utilised from within the North West Area and installed at a cost of £120K – the results have been so good that we were able to completely cancel the Contract Crushing costs saving £230K in year one and £350K from year two onwards.
