Celebrating 5S Success Examples

Great ideas deserve to be shared! Capture it. Share it. Inspire others.

Earlier this year the UK Materials 5S Improvement Initiative was launched as part of the Europe Materials 2026 Health & Safety Improvement Plan. The initiative focuses on practical improvements that make our sites safer, tidier, and more efficient, with particular emphasis on pedestrian and traffic management and housekeeping.

Since launching, we’ve already seen some brilliant examples of simple but effective improvements from sites across the business (see image).

Over the coming months we will be sharing some great examples from across our UK business.

At Bletchley Rail depot, the team have made fantastic improvements to the ground conditions along the designated walking route used by rail ground staff. These improvements reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls and are in line with the Dove Holes Rail LTI and Bletchley safety inspection.

Congratulations to the Bletchley team!

Share Your 5S Successes
A new 5S Good Practice Library is now available on the UK Health & Safety SharePoint, giving teams the opportunity to share successful improvements and learn from best practice across the business. If your site has introduced a safer, smarter or more efficient way of working, we’d love to hear about it. Simply complete the 5S improvement template, including a short description, before and after photos, and details of how the improvement has been sustained. Send completed submissions to Jason Barker, who will review and upload them to the library. Together, we can share great ideas and make every site safer.

You can access the 5S Good Practice Library HERE

Let’s keep the ideas flowing and show what great 5S looks like across UK Materials.
