As the school holidays begin, we’d like to remind all colleagues, contractors and haulage partners that children must not travel in HGV cabs while undertaking work activities.
We understand that school holidays can present childcare challenges, and many people have fond memories of travelling with a parent or family member in a lorry. However, today’s legal responsibilities and industry safety standards mean this is no longer acceptable.
Carrying children in HGV cabs creates unnecessary and avoidable risks, including driver distraction, falls from vehicles, and exposure to hazards when visiting operational sites such as quarries, depots, asphalt plants and customer locations. These environments are designed for trained and authorised personnel and are not suitable for children.
Protecting people from harm is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why all colleagues and contracted drivers must ensure that children are never carried in HGV cabs during work activities and that this requirement is followed at all times.
