Dan Mann from our Public Affairs team recently attended a business reception hosted by the Mexican Embassy and the UK Department for Business and Trade, marking the formal entry into force of the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The event brought together policymakers, diplomats and industry representatives to highlight the growing trade relationship between the UK and CPTPP members, and to explore the opportunities arising from the agreement. It was encouraging to hear contributions from Minister Sir Chris Bryant MP, alongside representatives from both governments, underscoring the shared ambition to strengthen economic ties and unlock new areas of cooperation.

Discussions focused on how CPTPP membership can support UK businesses through improved market access, reduced trade barriers and greater supply chain resilience across a bloc representing a significant share of global GDP. For Cemex, the event provided a useful opportunity to build connections, better understand the evolving trade landscape, and consider the potential implications for our international operations.

The evening also reinforced the importance of collaboration between government and industry in maximising the benefits of new trade agreements. Cemex looks forward to continuing to engage on these issues as the CPTPP framework is implemented in practice.
