Colleagues from Cemex Rail Solutions and Midland Aggregates recently spent a rewarding Lend a Hand day volunteering at a local special educational needs (SEN) school, helping to transform an outdoor space into a welcoming garden for learning, wellbeing and reflection.

The team worked alongside the school to create an inclusive outdoor environment where pupils can learn, play and recharge. The new garden features a small games area, a quiet space for children who need time away from the classroom, and a dedicated area for reflection, providing a calm and engaging setting that can be enjoyed throughout the school day.

The school expressed its heartfelt thanks to the volunteers, praising the team’s enthusiasm, hard work and the positive impact they made. Staff commented that the project not only transformed the outdoor space but also helped pupils feel valued and supported throughout the day.

The visit also gave pupils the opportunity to see teamwork and community spirit in action. One pupil was so inspired by the volunteers that he shared his ambition to work for Cemex when he leaves school and named one of their garden ornaments Terry The Turtle (see image).
