Celebrating 5S Success Examples – Hatfield

The UK Materials 5S Improvement Initiative focuses on practical improvements that make our sites safer, tidier, and more efficient, with particular emphasis on pedestrian and traffic management and housekeeping. Since launching, we’ve already seen some brilliant examples of simple but effective improvements from sites across the business.

Some more great examples come from Hatfield quarry where the team have implemented safer guarding enabling them to safely check the belt inside, creating less downtime. They’ve created a shadow board to safely store hand tools and replaced rusty flooring prone to puddles with new open mesh flooring, eliminating puddles and slippery surfaces (see before and after photos).

Congratulations to the Hatfield team!

Share Your 5S Successes
A new 5S Good Practice Library is now available on the UK Health & Safety SharePoint, giving teams the opportunity to share successful improvements and learn from best practice across the business. Please send completed submissions to Jason Barker, who will review and upload them to the library. Together, we can share great ideas and make every site safer.

You can access the 5S Good Practice Library HERE

Let’s keep the ideas flowing and show what great 5S looks like across UK Materials.
