In response to a serious road traffic incident involving a commercial vehicle driver from another company who was watching video content through AI-powered smart glasses while driving, Cemex has introduced new guidance prohibiting the use of smart glasses and any other wearable technology while driving.

As wearable technology becomes more common, devices such as AI smart glasses can look almost identical to standard prescription glasses or sunglasses. However, they can display information directly in the wearer’s field of vision and offer features including messaging, video playback, navigation, recording and other applications, creating a significant distraction.

To help keep everyone safe, the use of smart glasses or any wearable technology is strictly prohibited while driving and in any situation where distractions could create a safety risk. This applies to all employees and contractors across our operations.

Whether you’re behind the wheel, operating plant or equipment, or carrying out any task on site, your full concentration, without distractions, is needed at all times. Even a momentary distraction can have devastating consequences for you, your colleagues and members of the public.
