Keeping Us Secure At Sea…..

Congratulations to Captain Matt Bland, UK Marine Ltd, Fleet Safety and Development Master, who has recently completed Company Security Officer (CSO) training; in accordance with the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The ISPS Code came into force worldwide in 2004 in response to the 9/11 World Trade Centre terrorist attack in New York; to protect global shipping against terrorist attacks and other less serious security issues. CEMEX vessels operating internationally are required to hold confidential Ship Security Plans (SSPs) to protect against and counter security threats to vessels and crews.

Captain Bland’s qualification as CSO will permit him access to security plans to ensure they remain up to date and fit for their intended purpose. This has been brought about by a policy change within the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Regulator for UK commercial shipping; transferring responsibility for review of SSPs from the regulator to the ship owner.

This important task undertaken by Captain Bland will ensure CEMEX vessels remain properly compliant with relevant regulations and able to continue operation in their markets.
