At the recent MPA Health and Safety Awards in the UK, the event was opened with a fantastic video featuring Lex Russell, Cemex UK Materials Managing Director and MPA Chair, and BBC TV presenter, Mike Bushell.

This video takes viewers on location to our Dove Holes quarry in Derbyshire where Lex and Mike discussed the importance of a strong safety culture, built on personal responsibility, behavioural safety, and visible leadership. While touring the site and speaking to Cemex colleagues, they also talked about how a health & safety culture is focused on preventing complacency, empowering everyone to stop unsafe work, and ensuring systems are designed to support safe behaviours.

The visit also showcased practical safety measures in action and reinforced the industry’s Vision Zero commitment which centres on learning, continuous improvement, and the belief that all harm is preventable.
