Recently Rail had its second best ever month (October) and its best ever total for a November in any year. Combined we moved 500,000 Tonnes by rail in two months and have once again broken the 2.5mT by Rail in a calendar year for the third year running.
Having spent well over a year renegotiating all of our contracts and taking a bold step to move from one single Operator to two Freight Operators, and a separate Terminal Operator at Dove Holes, it’s great to see that volumes have not been affected. In addition, there is now spare capacity to move more as we don’t run every train available to us.
We are also now moving sand by train for the first time with new flows into our New Luton Depot and a 3rd party stocking space at Small Heath. The latter of these was up and running in approximately two weeks of the initial request.
In 2019 we will move more by Rail enabling us to better target our customers, reduce road truck movements and reduce our environmental impact even further. With new liveried and repurposed wagons arriving into the Hopper Fleet next year we will increase our capacity further and be on the journey to breaking more records in the near future.
